Welcome to Being Raised Vegan!

As first generation Vegan parents we thought it would be helpful to share our insights on raising a baby vegan. We hope you enjoy this part of Meat Is My Ex, and feel free to share any of your experiences of raising your own little vegans.

When we found out we were expecting the same questions seemed to arise. "Are we going to raise our daughter vegan?", "How are we going to be able to provide her with enough protein?", "What if one day she wants to eat meat?".

Interestingly enough we realized these same concerns on a child's well being were not brought up with our friends and family who still ate meat. Veganism is not a punishment for a child, but in our case; a way to break "generational curses". As previous meat eaters we did consider the fact that our child would be raised never having tried meat, while we at least knew what it tasted like , and guess what!!!, that is A okay with us.

It seemed very ironic that so many people are okay with the idea of raising a child on meat and no one says, But Wait! you are not allowing them to be vegan, or vegetarian. In many cases the main argument is that our child will not get enough protein, when the realty is many meat substitutes, beans, legumes, ect. all have high amounts of protein, even more in comparison to weight than most meats.

So yes, we are raising our daughter vegan, and are expressing to her the importance of having compassion towards all life, not just human. We will express to her the benefits of living a vegan lifestyle, and provide her with the information to make the most out of it.

Tell us your stories on how your children are BEING RAISED VEGAN, we know we are not the only ones!
